I often include fire flies in my pieces as a metaphor for quantum non-locality of consciousness, which would basically allow us to "teleport" our consciousness to some far off location while still being present in another. Certainly a neat trick. I also draw and paint my share of floating boats. I imagine the totally silent, peaceful movement of these boats through the sky and I think of them (and their potential occupants) as peaceful, quiet observers--or perhaps students on a journey to some higher or secret knowledge. This largely frozen, completely unoccupied landscape seems the perfect spot for such knowledge to hide.

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings.
