Artist's Description

This painting is my own little modern take on the story of Icarus. I'm attempting to show how we are so completely dwarfed by Nature...both in scale and in power. As we become more technologically advanced, we would do well to check our hubris and try to live with and within Nature rather than attempt to conquer her...lest she clip (or singe) our wings for us.

James Andrews

James Andrews is an artist and teacher who has been living in the Pacific Northwest since 1999. Andrews work is best described as Narrative Surrealism. While he is skilled in classical figure drawing with graphite and color pencil, the bulk of his professional work is in painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1973, Andrews' family moved out to Long Island's beautiful East End when he was a toddler. The skies, waters and other scenic features of the beloved Hamptons area, which he will always refer to as “home” populate many of his paintings. Andrews has always had a love of art and the stories it can tell. This love led him to pursue and earn a BFA in Theatrical Design from the State University of New York at New Paltz and,...
